PG&E Pre-Owned EV Rebate

Pre-owned (used) vehicles only.

– Vehicle needs to be a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) or Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) listed on the HOV Eligibility list at the time of purchase *. See a list of eligible plug-in automobiles here.

– Vehicle can be acquired or leased.

– Vehicle needs to stay registered to the candidate in California for a minimum of 20 months.

– Vehicle must be currently signed up to the candidate’s PG&E residential service address.

– If authorized, the rebate check will be mailed to the address listed on the car’s registration card.

* Hydrogen Fuel Cell automobiles and Compressed Natural Gas vehicles are not eligible.

Applicant Eligibility

– Application must be successfully sent within 180 days of the date of EV purchase or lease.

Submit an application within 180 days after buying or leasing a pre-owned EV to get either the Standard Rebate or Rebate Plus

REBATE PLUS OPTION

Customers who fulfill the PG&E Pre-Owned EV Rebate program requirements and are income-qualified might be qualified for the Rebate Plus alternative of $4,000.

If a candidate satisfies all other program requirements and qualifies under Eligibility Scenario 1 or Scenario 2 below, they might be eligible for the Rebate Plus choice. Eligibility Scenario 1: Enrollment in a Qualified Public Assistance Program

– Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

– Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).

To qualify, the applicant’s name should match that of the participant enrolled in the eligible public support program and the evidence of registration should be dated within 12 months of the application submission date. Applicants listed as a reliant on their evidence of public assistance paperwork are not qualified for the Rebate Plus option. If a candidate is under the age of 18, additional paperwork will be asked for to confirm dependence status.

* Applicants with applications and supporting files submitted on or after June 13, 2023 might certify for Rebate Plus by offering their Drive Clean in the San Joaquin Replace Program approval letter that confirms their validated family income is 80% or less of the Area Median Income (AMI) for the candidate’s county.

** Applicants with applications and supporting documents sent on or after May 22, 2025 may qualify for Rebate Plus by providing their Bay Area Clean Cars for All Program approval letter.

Eligibility Scenario 2: Income Verification

If the applicant’s household satisfies the annual gross earnings limits for their family size and the county in PG&E’s service area where the candidate lived when the vehicle was acquired or leased, the candidate might get approved for the Rebate Plus option:

Household size includes the taxpayer( s) and any individuals who are declared as dependents on one federal earnings tax return. A tax household may include a spouse and/or dependents. Individuals who live at the service address but who are not noted on the applicant’s submitted income tax return will not be consisted of in the “household size” for refund purposes.

Household income is identified by evaluating IRS income tax return transcripts. It includes the gross earnings of both taxable and non-taxable income sources of all home members ages 18 and older as shown on the most recently submitted tax return records available within 2 years of the car’s date of purchase or lease. This includes, however is not limited to, the following: earnings, joblessness, workers’ compensation, Social Security, Supplemental Security Income, public help, veterans’ payments, survivor advantages, pension or retirement income, interest, dividends, rents, royalties, income from estates, trusts, educational support, alimony, child assistance, assistance from outside the family, and other various sources.

Dependents are not eligible for the Rebate Plus choice. Dependency is determined by if the applicant is listed as a depending on another person’s income tax return transcript or if the candidate’s income tax return transcript shows an exemption variety of 0.
